Viva the Vidalia!

Eight artists and art-production companies team together for today's opening reception for Onion Skins. For starters, there's Sandusky Bay Poster Works founder Sean Carroll, who also started the annual Flatstock Print Show 12 years ago at the SXSW Music Fest in Texas. He's joined by painter and sculptor Paul Sydorenko, who's known for the whimsical characters he creates in his artwork. Ubiquitous rock-poster illustrator John G. is also in the show, along with the design team Bubble Process, whose visually stunning illustrations recently scored a top prize from Print Magazine. Artists Little Jacket, Jack Kelly, John Hicks, and Kenn Louis round out the exhibitors for the show, with its no-brainer (metaphoric? poetic?) title. "If one thinks about the skins of an onion, there are layers on top of layers of onion flesh," says Heather Young, the exhibit's curator. "As an artist adds layers of different colors of ink to a print on paper, it creates the final product for this show." Onion Skins is on display from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, through Saturday, February 16, at Arts Collinwood, 15605 Waterloo Road. Admission is free.
