Kevin Mahogany mastered the clarinet and saxophone when most kids his age were trying to beat Donkey Kong. Since then, the Kansas City native has played with some of the genre's giants as well as fronted his own ensembles. Mahogany's latest CD and tour pay tribute to the late torch singer Johnny Hartman. Mahogany's strong voice — well suited to both jazz and blues — sounds a bit like Hartman's. We bet the old-timer would approve.
