This weekend’s Ingenuity Festival, happening all over the PlayhouseSquare area tonight through Sunday, features a lot of strange, challenging, sure-to-be-head-scratching presentations that mix various artistic disciplines. But never fear: Even if you are not a fan of avant-garde theater, dance, performance art or experimental sound and light experiences — or you’re not sure if you are — the trip downtown and the $10 admission (or $15 for the whole weekend) is worth it for the chance to hear some good local music.

Among the acts performing tonight are open-ended experimental rockers If These Trees Could Talk (9:30, All Go Alley) and the noisier experimental act the Flat Can Co. (11:30, All Go Alley), hot hip-hop production duo the Kickdrums (7 p.m. E Café), Brazilian folk-pop singer Luca Mundaca (6 p.m., Star Plaza stage), instrumental surf-rock trio KB and the Riptides (7:30, Star Plaza Stage), Velvet Underground inspired rockers Mystery of Two (7:30 p.m., E. 14th Street Main Stage) and dynamic post-punk ensemble Hot Cha Cha (10:30 p.m., East 14th Main Stage).

Tomorrow, KB and the Riptides return (8 p.m., Star Plaza stage), Michael Calhoun of the Dazz Band presents some of Ohio’s R&B legends (2 p.m., Star Plaza Stage), jazz vibist Cecil Rucker performs (5 p.m. Star Plaza Stage), roots-rockers Cats on Holiday present a set augmented by the Mifune horn section (5 p.m., E. 14th Street Main Stage), punkabilly veteran the Whiskey Daredevils get wild and crazy (10:30, Star Plaza Stage), and electro-rockers This Is A Shakedown take the E. 14th Main Stage at 10 p.m.

On Sunday, Mifune will bring their electronic Afrobeat to the All Go Alley at 3 p.m. gospel ensemble the Prayer Warriors will praise God at 3 p.m. at the Star Plaza Stage, Prayer Warriors (3 p.m. Star Plaza), alt-country band Hayshaker Jones takes the Star Plaza Stage at 6 p.m., and the always entertaining North Coast Men’s Chorus struts their pride at 5 p.m. at the E. 14th Street Main Stage.

There’s many more — these are only highlights. A full schedule is available on Ingenuity's website. —Anastasia Pantsios
