They just sent out the e-mail this morning, and it sounds a trifle informal, as things tend to be with the experimental band. Flat Can Co, who call themselves “primitive technology specialists,” will be playing at 10 tonight at their frequent stomping ground, Pat’s in the Flats, to celebrate the release of their new album, Remember When I Set You Free.

The band writes in its e-mail, “Four months ago on a rainy Saturday afternoon, we recorded an album at Pat’s in the Flats. Tonight, come down and see how it turned out.”

The quartet, known for their open-ended adventures in improvisational sound sculpting, includes four seasoned veterans of Cleveland’s underground music scene: drummer Scott Pickering, guitarists Keith Pickering and Melanie “Miss Melivs” Fioritto and bassist Jimmy Donadio. They’ve been together five years.

Cleveland’s Clan of the Cave Bear, Brooklyn’s Scurvy and Jiri Suruvka of the Czech Republic (currently SpACES’ Galleries’ SWAP artist) are also on the bill. The show is free. —Anastasia Pantsios
