The Cello Electric

Posted by Michael Gallucci on Thu, Nov 5, 2009 at 10:09 AM

Electric cellist Helen Money — real name Alison Chesley — plays the Front Room Gallery tonight. Money plugs her big string instrument into a guitar amp, cranks up the effects and rocks it out. Classical and traditional, it ain't. But she's cultivating a following among the instru-metal crowd, sharing fans of bands like Pelican, Neurosis, Dysrhythmia and, of course, chamber-quartet-from-hell Apocalyptica. It's also good, moody, atmospheric background music to listen to at work.

Check out her cover of the Minutemen's "Political Song for Michael Jackson to Sing" above. And click here for more.

Like Bells and Technical Drawings are also on the bill. The show starts 9:30 p.m.; tickets: $5. —D.X. Ferris
