For several years, one of Cleveland’s top guitarists, Byron Nemeth, has been searching for a vocalist to join his instrumental progressive rock quartet the Byron Nemeth Band in order to broaden its audience.

The search is over: Ray Richter is the band’s newest member.

To introduce him to fans, they’ve re-recorded “Demon’s Wing,” a track they released last year, with vocals added.

Richter’s voice — crisp but not screechy — proves the perfect complement Nemeth’s slashing guitar work. The track is available for free download at byronnemeth.com. The band plans to record and release new material periodically at its website.

The BNG will also be part of a Whitesnake tribute album, slated for spring release on Nashville-based label FnA. They covered the band’s 1989 tune “Slip of the Tongue,” which they recorded at Nemeth’s own Pacifica Studios on West 130th Street.

Other members of the band include bassist Brian Glodde, keyboard player Joe Hengesbaugh and drummer Dave Clark. —Anastasia Pantsios
