Wish You Were There

Pink Floyd tribute band Wish You Were Here, one of the city’s top-drawing groups, plays House of Blues on Friday.

Singer-bassist Eroc Sosinski checked in with us to give some hints about the group’s surprise-filled, two-set show. And we got to talkin’ about Roger Waters’ amazing The Wall concert, which rocked the Q a few weeks ago.

On the Waters show:
“I thought it was a visual and aural feast for the eyes and ears. Lighting and graphics were amazing. The colors and high def projections were eye-popping. Sound was some of the best I have heard in a big concerts in a sports hall. The Wall is truly the, if not one of the, greatest rock theatre pieces.

“Roger performed exactly the way I thought he would. At 67 years old, he's not so miserable or freaked out anymore, and likewise the show is not as shocking as 30 years ago—albeit in a different way, too. And so it was more like him leading us through an emotional and more thought-provoking presentation. For me, it's good to see him with a little more outward sense of humor. And from what I've read, it's been good for him to, to 'tear down some of his walls.'

“One interesting note was that he lowered the musical key on two of the higher-vocals songs, ‘One of my Turns’ and ‘Run Like Hell’ Both sounded slightly different, obviously, but it is an accommodation for him vocally. I guess better than him cheating too much."

“If anything, I did think it was interesting to see the different approach of my production of the show compared to his. We used more elements from the movie and live characters from his Berlin Wall show to make it a little more theatrical. Of course that also helped to substitute for much of the visual projections and other props we could not accomplish with our budget. We had to have a smaller vision, of course. So it was very fitting and satisfying to see Roger utilizing today's technology to realize his grand vision in such a spectacular way.

On his band's show on Friday:
“Wish You Were Here is playing Friday—yes, a rare Friday show. We'll be doing four surprise album sides, plus other classics. At least one of those sides are from The Wall." —D.X. Ferris
