10 Things Going on in Cleveland this Weekend (June 13 - 15)

Sax legend Walter Beasley begins a three-night run at Nighttown tonight. His approach to smooth jazz has lofted him toward the pinnacle of the contemporary jazz scene, and his latest release, Live in the Club, displays his versatility on the sax while showing off his leadership skills at the helm of a terrific band. Beasley’s tone is rich throughout and smoky when he needs it to be. Check out “Groove In You” for a dose of fusion and Beasley’s penchant for jaunty lead work. The ongoing project at SPACES is all about art influencing art. TAG is a playful collaboration between Thu Tran and Jason Eppink. The two artists create new work, taking over each other's project each week without discussing what they will do to it. The public is invited to view their progress that leads up to a "Big Reveal" every Friday. Tonight's event reveals the third round of TAG and featuring a new SPACES event, Farewellcome that welcomes new artists in town while bidding farewell to those leaving Cleveland. Comedian Michael Ian Black is a man of many talents. While he’s probably best known for doing standup (he had a terrific Comedy Central special that came out a couple of years back), he’s also written screenplays (2007’s underrated Run, Fatboy, Run) and written children’s books. Often self-deprecating (“you might know me from my show Cancelled,” he jokes), Black has a very deliberate and precise style. He doesn’t get too worked up during his routines but his jokes are so well written, you can’t fault him for having so much self-control. He performs tonight at 8 at the Grog Shop. Tickets are $20. The World Beer Festival aims to capitalize on our fair city’s growing interest in all things beer. Last year’s event, which took place on the docks behind FirstEnergy Stadium, was a huge success. This year’s event, which takes place at Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica, promises to be even bigger and better. General admission tickets are $40 and include a tasting glass and 40 taste tickets so you can sample some of the 200 beers that will be available. VIP admission tickets are available at $75 and offer the same number of taste tickets along with a bonus hour of admission, access to a private hospitality area with private bathrooms, an upscale food buffet and a bonus selection of rare beers not available to the general public. The festival takes place from 1 to 5 p.m. VIP ticket holders can start getting their drink on at noon. (Niesel)

You can’t see it, but wind is all around us — and might even serve as a good source of renewable energy. And where better to celebrate all that than at a beautiful lakefront park? That’s the thought behind the second annual Euclid Wind Festival, which will feature the biggest concentration of wind turbines in Northeast Ohio. You can dig those cool effects today from 4 to 9 p.m. at Kenneth J. Sims Park in Euclid. There, you can take tethered hot-air balloon rides, see on-land wind surfing demos and hear Pieces of Eight play a concert on the beach. There’s even a beer tent. (Niesel)

The Cleveland Museum of Art kicks off its Parade the Circle arts fest, which is now in its 25th year, at 11 a.m. today. The parade starts at noon, but the festivities last until 4 p.m. with food, various activities and entertainment for the whole family all around the circle. Stilt walkers, dancers, bright costumes and giant puppets will all make their appearances, lighting up the whole circle with whimsy and color. An exhibit of past Parade the Circle events will be on display in the museum through August 10. (Trenholme)

Beers from all these bars and more can be yours this evening, and all you’ve got to do is run a 5K first. It’s not like you’re getting them free or anything, but with the Ohio City Run & Crawl, the dash at 7 p.m. (registration at 5:30) is only the evening’s prelude. Tickets are $25 at this point, and you can get them online or, if you prefer to do things last minute, just sign up the day of. Empty your belly and bring cash (or credit) for one of the hottest brewery districts in the country after you’ve sweated out some preemptive calories. (Allard)

As part of the Sunday Classics Brunch Series — $5 movies and coupons for some of the great restaurants in the Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood — The Sting, the 1973 con man classic starring Robert Redford and Paul Newman in 1930s Chicago, plays this morning at 10. This one’s really a classic — taking home seven Academy Awards including Best Picture. It’s actually the only time Redford has ever been nominated for Best Actor! (He was robbed last year, after his sensational turn in All is Lost). Anyway, Redford and Newman’s buddy is killed by the mob, so they seek vengeance by trying to pull off one hell of a caper. Twists and turns like you wouldn’t believe… unless you’ve seen it. (Allard)

The Towpath Trail is one of the best trails in Northeast Ohio. It stretches from Old Harvard Road all the way down to Akron and beyond. It’s the site of the Towpath Trilogy, a trio of road races that feature different distances. Today’s event is dubbed the Towpath Ten Ten. Runners have the option of running 10 miles or 10 kilometers (be sure to figure out which is shorter or it’s going to be a rather long run). The 10-miler starts at West Canal Road at Lombardo Drive and the 10K starts at Canal Road at Bacci Park. Both races begin at 7 a.m. Registration costs $40 to $45. (Niesel)
