10 Things Going on in Cleveland this Weekend (November 15-17)

Billed as "Cleveland's hippest art design gift event," ArtScape offers an alternative to shopping at the big box retail stores. The Museum of Contemporary Art has curated the more than 40 local and national artists and vendors who will sell jewelry, accessories and gifts at the event. It kicks off today at 5 p.m. with a preview party that includes music, drink specials and food. Admission is free for MOCA members, $8 for non-members. ArtScape also will be open tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. when admission will be free. (Niesel)

Lovers of wine and food, rejoice! We've got another fantastic tasting on the horizon. From 7 to 9 p.m. this evening, join the folks at Anthony's Ristorante & Wine Bar, located in the heart of Cleveland's historic Little Italy, for a five-course meal. Enjoy savory Italian classics, expertly paired with hand-selected wines by Private Reserve's owner and sommelier, Tim English. Best known for 1959's Kind of Blue, the best-selling jazz album ever, Miles Davis is one of the great jazz trumpet players of all time. Tonight and tomorrow night at the Hanna Theatre, the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra presents Miles Davis: A Unique Tribute to an Uncommon Mind, a program that will revisit music from Davis' Big Band days of the '40s and '50s. Jo Geibard, author of Miles and Jo. Love Story in Blue, will give a pre-show talk at 7:30 with local jazz broadcaster Bobby Jackson. The concert starts at 8. Tickets are $25 to $45. (Niesel)

Artist JoAnn DePolo takes contemporary art to a whole new level with her new exhibition Restored, a unique collection of sculptures made entirely from outdated computer parts. See how DePolo deconstructs technological devices of the past only to give them new life and meaning by rebuilding them into interactive pieces, such as fully functional laser scanners and desk clocks. In addition to her computer sculptures, the exhibit features some of DePolo's stunning paintings, jewelry, glassware and photography. An opening reception for Restored takes place tonight from 7 to 9 p.m at JoAnn DePolo Studios & Gallery in North Olmsted. Can't make it to tonight's free event? Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure screens tonight at the Capitol Theatre as part of the Melt Bar and Grilled Late Shift Series. It’s a fitting selection for the cult-classics line-up, one which features George Carlin as Rufus, an emissary from the future, tasked with making sure two valley dudes pass a history exam so they can later imbue the future’s culture with the music and wisdom of their garage band. Time travel and ludicrous 1980s special effects are worth the $5 ticket price alone, as is Keanu Reeves’ voice and Keanu Reeves’ haircut. To top it all off, Cleveland Cinemas is offering most excellent prizes for the best historical costume in the audience. Dust off those Halloween wigs and waistcoats and have yourself a hilarious sci-fi night at the movies. The film shows at midnight. (Allard)

The Cleveland Comedy Festival Class Clown Comedy Class will include 4 two-hour Saturday afternoon classes at PlayhouseSquare's Kennedy's Cabaret. Ohio-born singer-songwriter John Legend had the kind of upbringing that naturally lent itself to a career in music. He sang with his church choir while still a kid and then gravitated to hip-hop and R&B as he got older. His 2004 debut Get Lifted is a terrific, old-school soul album that alternates between romantic ballads ("Let's Gift Lifted") and modernized R&B ("I Can Change"). While the production relies a little too heavily on synthesizers and string arrangements, his new album, Love in the Future, mines similar territory. The Girls in the Band tells the poignant, untold stories of female jazz and big band instrumentalists and their fascinating, groundbreaking journeys from the late 30′s to the present day. These incredibly talented women endured sexism, racism and diminished opportunities for decades, yet continued to persevere, inspire and elevate their talents in a field that seldom welcomed them. Today's event kicks off at 1:30 p.m. at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Tickets are $9.
