10 Things Going on this Weekend in Cleveland (October 24 - 26)

Interested in an afternoon of strange diseases, amputated body parts and other medical oddities? The Cleveland Bazaar is partnering up with CWRU’s Dittrick Museum of Medical History to create what they are calling a “one of a kind shopping/scavenger hunt-style event with a storyline.” We’re not sure exactly what that all entails, but it sure sounds interesting! There will be prizes to win with a scavenger hunt all happening from noon to 5 p.m., while the rest of the bazaar goes on until 8. Local artisans will be selling creepy handcrafted wares. Halloween is rife with traditions in Northeast Ohio, and none comes more spookily recommended than Gory at the Quarry at Nelson Ledges Quarry Park. The annual weekend camping trip is the cherry on top of Nelson Ledges’ year-long roster of dynamite music events. This year, ekoostik hookah once again helms the lineup, headlining a bill that includes Adams Ale, Dead Ahead Ohio, Stoned and Beautiful, Ball n Chain, Willy Mac and Friends, John Mullins (late night Friday) and Danny Longhair (late night Saturday). Per the excitable organizers: The goods include the traditional costume contest, a kids' costume contest, a pumpkin-carving contest and a haunted campsite decorating contest. DO NOT FORGET the annual Gory Chili Cookoff, benefiting the Retts Foundation. That one is B.Y.O.L. (bring your own ladle). FYI: Chili pots should be ready by 2 p.m. Saturday. Comedian John Leguizamo’s standup is really like no other. He manages to weave colorful stories in with a strange variety show style with different voices, faces and impressions. This guy doesn’t really tell jokes; he tells outlandish, probably exaggerated stories involving picking up Irish girls, going through puberty and what it’s like at a Latin American family reunion. In fact, he’s slated to talk about “Latin History for Dummies” for this particular show, so who knows what he has up his sleeve for tonight. He appears on the Hilarities stage tonight at 7:30 and 10 and then tomorrow night at 7 and 9:30. Tickets are $33 to $35. (Trenholme)

Every October, people in Northeast Ohio go ga-ga for clambakes. But what about oysters? They're delectable too. Today from 6 to 10 p.m. at Tyler Village, oysters get their due at Shuck Yeah, Cleveland!, an event that features oysters, drinks and music. Catanese Classic Seafood will provide some of the best oysters from up and down both coasts. The partners in shucking are CLE On the Half Shell, Clevelandʼs premier oyster shucking service. The Smokinʼ Fez Monkeys and Queequeg will perform. Tickets start at $5 for general admission. For $25, you get 20 oysters and a drink ticket. Proceeds go to the Friends of Breakthrough Schools. The 13th Annual Halloween Run for Justice at the Galleria isn't just a run. It's a party. Planned in partnership with Hermes Sports and Events Cleveland, the day features 5-mile, 5K and 1-mile runs and a 5K or 1-mile walk. It also caters to the whole family with lots of activities including pumpkin decorating, face painting and the balloon creations of Flower Clown. The Madison Arts District in Lakewood is gearing up for another art crawl today. The theme is Halloween, and the various galleries and boutiques along Madison on the west end of Lakewood will all have something to offer. Dress up in costume and play games, eat food and buy an eclectic piece or two for your living room. The artists here are all locally based, so you’ll be supporting the little guy and have a piece that’s unique. The original John Carpenter classic Halloween has been remastered for the big screen and will show tonight at 8 and 11 p.m. at the Nightlight, the Akron arthouse theater. Preceding the film will be a performance by the John Carpenter Tribute Band, Analog Fog, which will cover themes from Halloween, The Fog, The Thing and more. The featured beverage for this evening will be the Great Pumpkin, "a tasty brew made of apple cider, ginger brew, and rum served from a carved pumpkin." Michael Myers, the villain of the Halloween series will be in attendance to greet visitors and pose for photos. The film will screen again at 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 30 and 31, but the band will only perform at tonight's screening. Tickets are $10. (Niesel) $10

A man suffering from the early stages of Alzheimer's is at the center of Wrinkles, an animated flick from Spain's Ignacio Ferreras. Based on a famous graphic novel, the movie has been lauded as one of Spain's greatest movies ever. It makes its Cleveland debut tonight at 6:30 at the Cleveland Institute of Cinematheque. The film shows again tomorrow night at 6:45. Tonight's screening will be the English language version that features the voices of Martin Sheen, Matthew Modine and George Coe. Tomorrow night's screening will feature the Spanish language version with subtitles. Tickets are $9. (Niesel)

After a miraculous win against the Titans and a thrashing of the Steelers, the Cleveland Browns look like a team that might make the playoffs. The key will be picking up a few wins against the league's weaker teams. Last week, the Browns faced a Jacksonville Jaguars team that had yet to win a game. This week, they're up against an Oakland Raider team that has struggled to win. Kickoff at First Energy Stadium isn't until 4:25 p.m. so that gives you plenty of time to tailgate.
