Re: “Best Mariachi Band

I am looking for a phone number for this group. I went to the website but it is under construction.

Re: “Best Promoter

Means a lot when a promoter actually goes to shows that their not promoting or have no involvement with, James and Cleveland Music City absolutely deserve this award, Congrats!!

Re: “Best Music Venue

House of Blues is a beautiful venue, i think maybe the Grog Shop would have benefited from this more though?

Re: “Best Art Gallery

John is right. The art gallery category is pathetic. Even if the "public" decided that these places and events are galleries, I would hope that a magazine like Scene would choose to represent "Cleveland's Best" by elevating the general public's idea of a gallery.

What might be nice is an actual review of commercial galleries, non profit galleries, frame shop galleries, and art centers to help people, including artists, distinguish between them.

Re: “Best Up and Coming Band or Musician

So glad you gave this award to someone who made ONE song three years ago. A minute long song, too. It's just proof that your best of cleveland issue is just a way to get extra ad money. These people only win because their friends (or in this case, Alan Cox and his audience) stuff the ballots. There are lots of great artists here who have made full albums who deserve this attention.

Re: “Best Local Print Publication

Way to give yourself a Staff Pick award. That's hilarious. It really shows how absurd and completely irrelevant your "awards" are.

Re: “Best Music Venue

The House of Blues is one of the worst venues in town.

Re: “Best Art Gallery

Actually, Daniel, hipstersir is very right. 78th Street is not an art gallery. Even by a dictionary definition, 78th Street is not a gallery. I go to 78th Street nearly every Third Friday. Actually, none of the four nominees are truly a gallery. This category was totally misrepresented. HEDGE is a gallery. Lesko, Sheele, Tregoning, Survival Kit - all galleries at 78th Street. There are dozens of true galleries around town - Bonfoey, Verne, Busta, Shaheen, Gallery 160, Contessa, Convivium, the list goes on (and yes even the one I own). 78th Street is a collective of galleries, studios and businesses and it is a true gem in Cleveland. Not actually having galleries represented in this category is an insult to the dozens of great art galleries in Cleveland and a complete misrepresentation of what our art scene is all about.

Re: “Best Art Gallery

hipstersir, you are completely WRONG. You need to go again. Look up gallery in a dictionary. Hedge, Lesco, Sheely and several others are REAL galleries amid a mix of various artists operating out of studios.

Re: “Best Music Venue

Does Applebee's serve top quality food like the House of Blues provides top quality entertainment in a top quality facility with top quality service and top quality security? Getting tired of you "hipsters" with your preconceived notions of what's cool and what's not. Obscure, unknown and off the beaten path does not equal the best experience.

Re: “Best House DJ

"MIMO" DOESNT EVEN PLAY HOUSE!!! OMG look at this mimo circle jerk in this thread. This is an embarrassment to Scene, Cleveland, and everyone on the PLANET who actually has respect for electronic music of any genre. Frankie Knuckles is rollin in his grave right now.

Re: “Best Art Gallery

Too bad 78th street - even though it is the best art event and venue in town - isnt an art gallery. Busta, Verne, Bonfoey - those are galleries. Get it right. Nothing in this category (and a place run by a Scene staffer doesn't count) are galleries.

Re: “Best Art Event

How does this event even count as an art event? There are barely any galleries on the walk. TAW has become nothing more than a restrant and bar crawl with a few shops in between along with the like three galleries worth checking out. Calling this the best art event is lame and ridiculous.
