Re: “Don't Press That Cavs Panic Button — The A to Z Podcast With Andre Knott and Zac Jackson

The bizarrely paranoid ESPN Cleveland suits recently targeted The Really Big Subreddit through a cease and desist notice surrounding the parodies created on video- and audio-sharing websites. The local programming wouldn't be a daily punch line if someone actually demanded professionalism from the on-air "talent".

Re: “Cuyahoga is one of the Least Healthy Counties in Ohio

Please have an editor proofread articles prior to publishing...it's not hard to be the # 2 ranked hospital in the COUNTY but being #2 in the COUNTRY is a bit more impressive.

Re: “Indians’ Senior Vice President to Tell World Series Stories Tonight at the Music Box

Perhaps the biggest BS moment in the long career of Bob DiBiasio dishing out BS: when the recession ripped through the region and communities were cancelling July 4th fireworks due to the cost, ol' Bob paraded around the local radio stations to announce the club was scheduling additional post-game pyrotechnic displays to fill the void. Funny - though - that admission did not mirror the "community days" celebrations (free).

Umm...the picture you used is at Crocker Park, not Shaker Square.

People like to judge each other and each other's creations. Some people are ignorant, some rude, some just shouldn't have internet access. But that's life.

Re: “How Noisy Is It Around Cleveland? A New Interactive Map Has the Answers

That red swatch where 71 bends to the southwest is a lie. Makes it look like the worst is only directly above the freeway. Not so, Boston. It should be much wider, as there are three glide paths that feed into three parallel NE-SW runways, which are the main landing runways. This is because the prevailing winds are mostly S and SW, rather than N and NE..

The third of these runways opened maybe fifteen years ago, and now put most incoming aircraft directly over my house. We are 2.5 miles from touchdown. When Air Force One brings the POTUS to town, or Fed Ex comes in (low and slow and huge, twice a day), I can count the rivets. Visitors sitting on my back porch or deck routinely duck.

The FAA soundproofing program of the Nineties only brings remediation in the winter months. In the warm weather months...not so much. Not unless you want to run your AC 24/7. We like fresh air.

Unfortunately, we also like having good hearing. And decades under the Hopkins flight path has slowly been killing off our eardrums. You do get used to the noise, even as your hearing deteriorates.

Re: “The Browns Already Hate Their New Uniforms, Will Probably Have New Ones in 2020, Because Of Course

Still two weeks until the opener, but you just had to get that "racist red sambo caricature" snark in there, didn't you?

As for the colors, if they keep going 5-11 ( one can only hope!) year after year, let alone 3-13 or even 1-15, who cares what shade of orange they are wearing when they lose and lose and lose? Make the helmets white instead of orange...as white is .the color of the white flag of surrender.

Better yet, make the helmets brown and the pants brown and the jerseys brown...because they're the Stinky Browns...and brown is the color of...yeah...do I need to spell it (or smell it) out for you?

Until they have at least a 50-50 chance of winning on any given Sunday, I will continue to find something else to do with my time, which gets shorter and shorter when you're a geezer, and is therefore more precious. Also, it hurts less when you care less...or when you finally quit caring at all.

Bryan Ferry and his band were so excellent. I felt he revisited all his Roxy album and solo hits. What an impressive performer! Viva Bryan!

Re: “FirstEnergy Will Sell or Close Both Ohio Nuclear Power Plants

Regulation and ignorance has driven the cost of maintaining these "state of the ark" plants sky high. The plants were designed and licensed to handle "design basis accidents", which were clearly spelled out and given the nod by the NRC. Then came Three Mile Island, and more recently, Fukushima in Japan. The regulations changed. The FLEX strategy developed as a knee jerk reaction to Fukushima drove plant owners to implement design changes and purchase equipment for postulated scenarios BEYOND what the design basis required. Digital technology used in other industries is seriously lagging behind due to cyber security requirements, thus we're stuck with analog technology from the 1970s and 1980s. Vendors are getting sick and tired of trying to meet qualification requirements for safety related equipment for a very narrow customer base, so we're running out of qualified parts.
I worked at Davis Bessie for four years during the hole in the head fiasco, so the management decisions made are also coming back to haunt these plants even now. Save a nickel now, spend $$$ later. The managers at that time got their bonuses and moved on, leaving a mess for the next poor sucker.
Sorry to hear Perry might be closed as well. Worked there, too, and at the time the workers really cared about doing their job well. Agree there were some managers there that shouldn't have been, but overall, a good plant.

Re: “City Council Begins Q Deal Deliberations, Cavs' Cheerleaders are No-Shows

Last week, Mike Polensek made a strong case on The Bob Frantz Authority radio show (AM 1420 The Answer). But there is nothing that will prevent this monstrosity of legislation from passage -- the deals were cut long before the show entered City Hall. All that's missing is Tom Chema rattling off a whole lot of nothing before baffled and bored city council members.

Re: “How Noisy Is It Around Cleveland? A New Interactive Map Has the Answers

Good to keep in mind that the DOT didn't visit and take any actual noise estimates, but modeled these colors based on estimates of road and air traffic.

I bet where I live is one of the loudest areas. Right by 90 and planes fly low directly over our house every day on their descent, not to mention the neighbors are only 6ft away on either side. Oh City Life!

Re: “The Browns Already Hate Their New Uniforms, Will Probably Have New Ones in 2020, Because Of Course

The uniforms appear to be saluting a muny league champion, but Jimmy and Dee seem to take sadistic pleasure in testing the patience of the loyal fans (and they haven't mutinied, yet). Just go with the classic 1961 look -- with the throwbacks going back to the 1946 AAFC season -- and end the nonsense.

@sknfjksdn, if you read the article it sounds like the redesign concept is actually about wanting to attract fewer slobs who feel they need to be coddled.

Re: “Kevin Kelley: City Council Won't Be Impediment to Passage of Q Deal

There is nothing wrong with the current arena we have... it suits it purpose wonderfully. It is Mr. Gilbert, who has a history of lying to the people of Cleveland (Where is that Phase 2 Casino?), who wants this renovation. If the Cavs want something more glitzy than go ahead and do it on your own dime. As a city, we cannot afford to spend that $88 million that needs to be spent towards keeping our city safe. So you can have the arena as is, and be safe getting to the game, or you can have a glitzy arena but you might be caught in crossfire and killed on your way there. Priorities people!

Re: “Kinsman Shootings Bring Cleveland’s 2017 Homicide Count to 30; Mayor, Police Chief Address Increasing Violence: UPDATE

Until the underlying social issues are addressed, including first and foremost JOBS, the violence will never stop. The Jackson Administration has been a complete failure! They got to go, that includes Councilwomen Mamie Mitchell and Phyllis Cleveland, and Councilmen Kevin Kelley, TJ Dow, Anthony Brancatelli, Kevin Conwell and Ken Johnson.

Re: “Everything You Need to Know About the Quicken Loans Arena Transformation

This sort of thing happens in every American City with sports franchises. The money discussed is far lower than other cities. Budgets, unfortunately, do not work in a way that we are free to allocate whatever funds we want to whatever line item we want. The arena needs updates, unquestionably. It (and the franchises that call it home) will continue to help keep downtown, and Cleveland in general, relevant, which, in turn, creates more jobs and more residents. It really is as simple as that.

Too many apples and oranges arguments above. Eg. Should there be more money for RTA? Absolutely. So let's raise the parking tax, stop building parking structures, and fix that directly and relevantly. But that has nothing to do with the Q.

Re: “Kevin Kelley: City Council Won't Be Impediment to Passage of Q Deal

If the Q makes more money than it costs, then either leave it as is or reinvest the profits.
The examples that Kelly cites as neighborhood investments shows just how out of touch he is.
He should drive around city streets to take a look at what many if us see.
He should go to a soup kitchen to learn about the safety net that keeps families from starvation in this city.
