Re: “Mad Greek Announces Last Day of Service

Sorry to lose the unique atmosphere, great people-watching bar-room, the moderate prices, and mostly excellent Greek menu.
(The creamy lemon soup has always been a "comfort food" favorite of mine since high school.)

Forty years in the restaurant business is truly forever, and their passing will sorely be missed in the Heights area.

Re: “John Oliver Takes Aim at Ohio Charter Schools

Unfortunately, this arrogant cockhead's "rebuttal" of Kasich was stupid. Another comedian turned liberal pundit. Can't the liberals get any famous pundits that aren't jokers?

Re: “Mad Greek Announces Last Day of Service

Barrio is a cool spot for drinks but the soggy wet tacos have gone down hill big time. They need to refocus on food quality and less on growth.

Re: “An Ode to Chain Restaurants as Ruby Tuesday Announces Closures

There is only 1 reason the chain restaurants are dying...food quality. I agree this has something to do with the management and cost cutting when hiring staff, but if the people cooking the food don't care how dry the meat is, no one is going to make your diner a destination.

Re: “Mils, Marriage and Dysfunction: All Three are Center Stage in Rom-com-dram 'The Intervention'

I was at a screening of it at Sundance and in the Q&A they mentioned that Cobie Smulders actually broken her leg in real life and they had to incorporate that into her character at the last minute during shooting.

Sorry, pal... you must mean some other Chuckles. Taping cheekbones? Not my thing. Not into porn, either. Hell, I don't even own a pornograph.

Re: “Cleveland is First US Market for Reso, Latest Challenger to OpenTable

Good luck, Reso restauranteurs.. I am still an OpenTable first traveler/diner... But at least you TAKE online reservations, which is more than can be said about those those smug Momocho or M/Burntwood or ML/Hyde Park types types, who apparently feel they are so busy already - via their archaic phone/book/pencil system - that they don't need those of us who wouldn't pick up phone and call for a res if we had to (Momocho folks just laugh at you when you call a few days before anyway, because they are booked and you are so silly to think you will get a spot).

Don't worry Chuckles, you can always refer back to those VHS tapes to, um, admire Homa's cheekbones. Sheesh!

Re: “My Horrible Experience Moving Into K&D's Reserve Square in Downtown Cleveland

Back in the Nineties and Aughts, my wife had relatives...distant cousins...who lived there. It was still classy then. But they were fairly old and the noise from the ballpark...the fireworks going off...bothered them. So they moved out to one of the outer city neighborhoods...it was West Park, I believe. Or it might have been on the Gold Coast in Lakewood. Can't recall anymore.

They said they needed more peace and quiet. I can't ask their opinion on Reserve Square because the conversation would be a trifle one-sided, as they are both dead.

Isn't that problem park right across the street? The one where folks stayed outside making noise until the wee hours, despite city ordinances? What ever happened with all that?

A high-rise slum with a rowdy park nearby...if downtown Cleveland still has designs of being like Brooklyn or Manhattan or inner-city Chicago, we are certainly well on the way. Wonder who's paying whom to turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to all this nonsense?

Re: “Channel 19 GM Stepping Down, Local TV News in Flux

Homa Bash is stunning. As an on-air reporter, I won't bash Homa...she was no better and no worse than the hordes of female reporters that suddenly show up on TV newscasts here and then shuffle off to Buffalo or Miami or Denver or wherever...usually someplace bigger. Just like going from Single-A ball to AA and then Triple-A.

Face it, although we are still in the Top 20 TV markets, Cleveland is barely holding a spot in the Top 50 largest cities anymore. So they come here from the boonies and get a tryout locally, and then either move up or move on. But the tryouts seem to be shorter and shorter...days or weeks or months, at most.

I hardly can keep score of who's arrived here and who's left, because they shuttle in and out so quickly as to seem to be generic and interchangeable talking heads...

Not Homa Bash, though. She stood out...for her gorgeousnessness, if nothing else. She was lovely to look at. That alone will make sure she is missed. Cheekbones to die for!

She probably won't miss standing out on an overpass in February, though, and having to inform viewers that snow is white, cold, and wet. I doubt if they stand outside in Tex-ass and tell viewers that it's 102 in the shade again.

Re: “First Look: Nuevo Modern Mexican on the E. Ninth Street Pier

This is a tragic misappropriation of the most valuable hospitality space in the city. I do wish the operators and employees well, but to the planners: What were you thinking? Corporate Mexican food? No perch and walleye? No Captain Franks? I think money was shaking the brains during this decision process.
