Re: “Mils, Marriage and Dysfunction: All Three are Center Stage in Rom-com-dram 'The Intervention'

I was at a screening of it at Sundance and in the Q&A they mentioned that Cobie Smulders actually broken her leg in real life and they had to incorporate that into her character at the last minute during shooting.

Re: “Film Spotlight: Anthropoid

Hitler described Heydrich as "the man with the iron heart". He who was also a key figure in the Röhm Putsch, which consolidated Hitler's domestic power as a supreme leader.

Re: “Ensemble Cast Combines for Woody Allen's Best Effort Since 'Midnight in Paris'

Actors of fully Jewish background: Logan Lerman, Natalie Portman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Mila Kunis, Bar Refaeli, James Wolk, Anton Yelchin, Paul Rudd, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Julian Morris, Adam Brody, Kat Dennings, Gabriel Macht, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Erin Heatherton, Lisa Kudrow, Lizzy Caplan, Gal Gadot, Debra Messing, Jason Isaacs, Jon Bernthal, Robert Kazinsky, Melanie Laurent, Esti Ginzburg, Shiri Appleby, Justin Bartha, Margarita Levieva, Elizabeth Berkley, Halston Sage, Seth Gabel, Corey Stoll, Mia Kirshner, Alden Ehrenreich, Debra Winger, Eric Balfour, Emory Cohen, Scott Mechlowicz, Odeya Rush, William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy.

Andrew Garfield and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are Jewish, too (though I don’t know if both of their parents are).

Actors with Jewish mothers and non-Jewish fathers: Jake Gyllenhaal, Dave Franco, James Franco, Scarlett Johansson, Daniel Day-Lewis, Daniel Radcliffe, Alison Brie, Eva Green, Joaquin Phoenix, River Phoenix, Emmy Rossum, Ryan Potter, Rashida Jones, Jennifer Connelly, Sofia Black D’Elia, Nora Arnezeder, Goldie Hawn, Ginnifer Goodwin, Amanda Peet, Eric Dane, Jeremy Jordan, Joel Kinnaman, Ben Barnes, Patricia Arquette, Kyra Sedgwick, Dave Annable, and Harrison Ford (whose maternal grandparents were both Jewish, despite those Hanukkah Song lyrics).

Actors with Jewish fathers and non-Jewish mothers, who themselves were either raised as Jews and/or identify as Jews: Ezra Miller, Gwyneth Paltrow, Alexa Davalos, Nat Wolff, Nicola Peltz, James Maslow, Josh Bowman, Winona Ryder, Michael Douglas, Ben Foster, Jamie Lee Curtis, Nikki Reed, Zac Efron, Jonathan Keltz, Paul Newman.

Oh, and Ansel Elgort’s father is Jewish, though I don’t know how Ansel was raised. Robert Downey, Jr. and Sean Penn were also born to Jewish fathers and non-Jewish mothers. Armie Hammer and Chris Pine are part Jewish.

Actors with one Jewish-born parent and one parent who converted to Judaism: Dianna Agron, Sara Paxton (whose father converted, not her mother), Alicia Silverstone, Jamie-Lynn Sigler.

Stick to your (suspect) movie reviews and leave the social commentary for the op-ed pieces.

Ridiculous. Who the F edits this drivel?

Re: “'Genius' is a Journey Through Literary 1930s

One thing I really hope to see (or hear) in this film is the mid-atlantic accent. I think it truly defines film of the 1930s and is absolutely essential to emulate! There's a great post about it here: http://www.cmdnyc.com/cities/los-angeles-mid-atlantic-accent

Regardless, im actually quite interested in checking out the movie! I think it'll be decent.

Re: “Why You Might Have a Real Hard Time Crying at 'Me Before You'

Ugh. Sorry to hear this. I thought the book was very well written and I sobbed like crazy reading the ending. I have been looking forward to the movie coming out, but you just confirmed my worst fear of any book made into a movie - the movie rarely delivers what the book did.

Re: “Elvis & Nixon: Michael Shannon and Kevin Spacey are Bang-on, but Movie is Little More Than Novelty

I wonder if they touch on the documented fact that Elvis was on a 3-day meth/speed binge when he came up with the idea; and that he was buzzed t/o their meeting?

Re: “Spotlight: 5 Films Not to Miss at CIFF

Maybe it's on "stand by only" because they're trying to locate an actual film, or even original source material, of Miles Davis as a "legendary saxophonist." ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! It's really too bad no one working at Scene, which is a great publication with great people, didn't catch this beyond egregious error. Miles played trumpet, man! Good God, this is absolutely inexcusable. (Cheadle is even holding the right instrument in the picture they used! Sweet Jesus.)

Re: “"Believeland" and More for International Film Festival's 40th Anniversary

Before Believeland, there was the City of Champions -- which was the moniker carried by the city after the Indians, Browns and American Hockey League Barons captured championships in 1948. An "alternate" logo of Chief Wahoo was created to celebrate the title; eyes peering up at a tilted crown......which was used for a number of years.

Re: “Baseball Documentary "Fastball" is a Must-See for Sports Fans

An October 1970 Sports Illustrated story on Steve Dalkowski summed up the mythical high-heat legend in a few words: "...(he) threw a fastball so hard that Ted Williams never even saw it. No one else could claim that."

Re: “Ski Jump Flick "Eddie the Eagle" is Uplifting in More Ways Than One

Eddie the Eagle said it all during a press conference at the Winter Games: "Where is it written that the Olympics are only for winners?" An East German newspaper had a different take: "Where would the Olympic Games go if the Eddie Edwards of this world took their place in every discipline and so discredited the sporting achievements of all those who far outstrip them in ability?" The IOC quickly sided with the East Germans....in 1990, a new qualifying standard ("Eddie the Eagle Rule") was established: an athlete had to be in the top 30% of international competitors or ranked in the top 50, whichever was fewer. Edwards never again competed in The Games, though he will always be associated with the joy of competing and doing your best -- against all odds.
