Re: “Cleveland Heights Freaks Out, Cancels Arts Fest Because of Social Media "Chatter"

We must give the police a little bit of room to operate. They are kept under very tight control to start with so a little room has to be provided. I don't see any evidence of an overreaction here. Pepper balls sent a message. Nobody was injured nor would it be prudent to assume anyone would. Their eyes burn for a bit. Gets their attention when need be. The proof is they just quiet down and everything reverts to where it should be. I support the police decision in this matter.

Re: “By His Hands

I focused in especially on Joe Dwyer's comment, re: "coldness." I don't envy Bishop Lennon's job at all--coming to a rust bucket city that's seen it's better days in what was its'core industries (manufacturing). Take a drive down Broadway Ave. around Holy Name Church. Check out the boarded up buildings Cleveland's population has shrunk by 17% since 2000 and a lot of people have suffered from it. And the religious Catholics probably suffer the most. I was baptized at an Inner City Church (closed) and made my first communion and confirmation at a suburban Catholic Church that has changed it's name.

This is tough stuff--but probably not much different than a City like Detroit, where the decline in their core businesses, caused their Inner City Churches to suffer and close. I don't know what the answer is, except the hard and discompassionate posture here is something to be concerned with.

Re: “The Frankenstein Factor

Very interesting and ambitious work.At this point, the idea of an immaterial soul being a sticking point is philosophically naive( Cartesian dualism in 2016?);these types of poorly understood metaphysical arguments are the same reasons stem cell research was temporarily, partially banned in the United States.
Animal research is unsavory,to say the least, but a necessary evil. The understanding of physical reactions to biological material is priceless.Vaccines save more lives (humans and animals) then they have taken to create unequivocally. Cars contribute to thousands (millions including animals) of deaths every year, nobody wants to ban cars. The first heart transplant (1963) was on par with this magnitude of scientific achivement,3,500 life saving heart transplants are done all over the world a year.
Calling this brilliant, ambitious life saving surgeon "Frankenstein" feels comfortable, it distances oneself from the perceived moral implications of such research.Realisticly, the moral implications of not pursuing the logical extensions of potential medicine( because the process is distasteful), far outweigh the collateral damage associated with consenting parties willing to try medically justified radical procedures that have the potential to enrich and extend lives.

Population. At some point, we will have to address population, or nature will do it for us.

Re: “Ohio's Dog Breeding Regulations Aren't Solving the Puppy Mill Problem

I just bought a puppy that clearly came from a puppy mill in Columbus, Ohio. Thought it seemed odd and puppy had many illnesses that has taken many vet visits, medications, and my dedication to caring for him. They promised AKC pepper work I have never seen. When purchased I was given female pup papers and the puppy had been transferred from Henry Yoder to Sunset Acres. This purchase occurred September 24, 2016 at a business not a kennel and two blocks from Ohio state police station in Columbus. I can share address and names to anyone wanting more information that would like to investigate them. I live in Illinois traveled to get pup that they eagerly wanted to ship. I was told parents at other site and pups when ready go to this site or brought there for pick up. My pup was to be a full blooded maltese with AKC papers. I was told from litter of three and the other two pups there were much bigger makes sense now not same litter I was given female papers with different birthdate than provided for male pup I purchased. Pups smelled of urine beyond belief. We took pup to vet on Monday after purchasing on Saturday because he seemed sick. He had four types of worms, garidia, ring worm, kennel cough, ear mites and malnourished. My vet clearly informed me based on what I told her on the purchase and his condition he came from a puppy mill. They advertise on puppy find and oodle. I have researched them more to discover they use photos over and over with different names. Our pup maltese but they sell several other breeds. BEWARE.

Re: “Off the Hook

Hi Martin ... I can help fill in the blanks. Alan Belkin went to work for Diane Gonda and Associates. He took my case and claimed in 2002 that he had lost his license because he failed to keep up with legal electronic filing requirements. I had just been laid off after employer harassment and intimidation and fraud plus age discrimination. Gonda argued that my case should be about the two year noncompete. I paid the retainer. They failed to file for close to a year (sound familiar?). I complained .... they browbeat me then finally filed. They lost but Gonda flat out refused to give me a copy of the docket. I finally received a copy and found that the judge found for my employer due Gonda's filing delay exceeding the statute of limitations and failure to file documents required by the court. She demanded more money to file an appeal. Another attorney I contacted drafted a demand letter and she subsequently filed at her cost. Months later I find that she had lost the case again. She again failed to file documents required by the courts and dropped the case with due notification from myself and the courts. She simply moved to St Thomas due to "court stress" per her St Thomas Scuba business site. She lied to the CBA that the case had no merit. CBA sided with her despite having a copy of part of the docket with the judge's comments. Ohio Bar refused to take action. Ohio Supreme Court refused to take action despite the fact that they had disbarred Belkin! Years later he was still working for another attorney in Cleveland. My life and career were destroyed.

Re: “The Curse of Chief Wahoo

Everyone is complaining about a caricature it's been used for many years for many sports teams why is nobody complaining how the United States government screwed over the indigenous people of the United States of America slaughtered them enslaved them took their land gave them nothing yet you people spend hours crying about a logo that bears no resemblance to an American Indian in actuality. If you are actually all really concerned about the plight of the American Indian the actual indigenous tribe of America go spend some time helping those people out they certainly need it

Re: “Help Wanted: The next generation of nannies for the super-rich

Ms. Rab,
Your article on the English Nanny & Governess School in May of 2008 was nicely done. As a former 1995 graduate of the school, I enjoyed reading it. I much enjoyed the school and my successful placement with one of their clients in Westchester County, NY - a professional, kind and compassionate, Hindu family with three wonderful children.

I am very grateful to the school for the professionalism they instilled in me and my classmates. It was a wonderful experience and led to a ten plus career as a Certified Professional Nanny. Mrs. Roth was very kind and soft spoken. To this day, I still remember her picking me up at the Cleveland airport when I flew in and taking me to the off campus apartment complex where the other students and I would be staying. I begged her not to get my luggage out of her trunk as I could do it, but she wouldn't hear of it. Very pleasant women.

I have researched "nanny" history and came across a book, although I don't remember neither the title nor the author, which detailed the true lives of a few European nannies. One was British and was placed with either an East Indian or Middle Eastern family. the young women had to wear the local cultural attire as part of her work. The book chronicled nannies from the 18th and 19th century. A very interesting and informative read. It shed light on how babysitters were considered for the poor and nannies were for the wealthy. One interesting note according to the author was that the nannies sometimes came out of the farming communities. An amazing history that we modern nannies came from!

Thank you again for the walk down "memory lane."

John Neal the cashier is amazing to me. I miss him though. He was there every day and now I don't see him anymore. Hope all is well with him and hope to see him again. He's really a great employee and you are lucky to have him working there.

Nice work! I need help with this too! I just filled out KS DoR CR-16 with an online software. It looked much better typed than hand-written. I used http://pdf.ac/5h90HK and it's very easy to use.
