Manakiki Golf Course is an elegant public course. The classic Donald Ross design offers a variety of challenges, including doglegs, water hazards, up-and-down shots, back-to-back par 5s, and two canyon holes.
The trademark of this park is its mile-long sand beach, the largest in the state. In addition to its popularity during the summer season with picnickers and swimmers, the area is home to many plant species typically found only along the Atlantic Coast.

Mentor Marsh, which was designated a national natural landmark in 1966, occupies an ancient, abandoned channel of the Grand River. A beech-sugar maple forest occupies the higher elevations bordering the marsh. At the eastern edge of the preserve, there is a mixed oak swamp forest, a type destroyed in most parts of the Lake Erie region.

An Irish pub, home of the Irish toast.
Strip-plaza setting notwithstanding, this handsome bistro has grown into Mentor's "go-to" spot for casually upscale dining, with an eclectic menu that ranges from Kobe burgers and signature crab cakes to pastas and parmigianas. For those who like lighter fare, a selection of stone-oven-baked pizzas fill the bill; for those who like drinking, the on-site wine shop provides 700 or so choices by the bottle, priced at retail plus a $5 corking fee.
