Re: “The Dredge Report

Mr. Roberts continues to malign the Port Authority and the members of its Board and management team WITHOUT factual basis.

Notwithstanding some missteps in its 44-year history, the Port Authority is an important part of the region's transportation and economic development asset base. In fact, it can be a leader in expanded Great Lakes shipping, which, if realized, could transform parts of our lakefront and riverfront as well as adjacent under-utilized industrial properties.

The levy is a modest investment. It deserves the support of the County's taxpayers.

Re: “Port in a Storm

Mr. Roberts:

Your article is replete with inaccuracy and a general of misunderstanding of the Port Board's dynamics.

To begin, I was the strongest proponent of hiring Adam Wasserman; he was (and is) talented and knowledgable. His views for expanding Port operations were consistent with my own. It was this shared vision that led the Board's work on the 55th Street relocation. Following my departure from the Port Board in January 2009, the Board lost its resolve and political will to pursue this project.

Mr. Carney orchestrated none of the dark scenarios that you "report".
