Matt Zone is my councilman, and I've met him on quite a few occasions while out and about. He has been one of the most responsive and responsible city council members I've ever run across, and represents one of the most culturally diverse neighborhoods in the U.S. He walks the tightrope of attracting big money while supporting and attending to the elderly and less fortunate. Quite well in fact.
So he is not perfect, if he used the term "un-American" I wouldn't be happy just because it is not really a term that is worth applying. You know who was an American, and a Clevelander? Ariel Castro. So using that term is just plain pointless.
Politics has a root word that is also the root word for polite. I've seen Matt in hot situations with some strange rangers, and he has always been polite, to a fault. It sounds like the protester interrupted actual business, nothing frivolous. The interrupter was out of line IMO.
I think that Scene is just trying to write something about Matt because he really does a great job, a boring, great job, and doesn't get much ink without him being a behind the scenes guy doing something fantastic.
Great Article, but I'll add a couple of things: The old Hornblower Restaurant-on-a-ship was bought by Lean Dog, one of Forbes top 10 hiring tech companies of 2012. As a result of that, Burke Lakefront Airport is alive more than its been in decades.
Secondly, some of the reclamation efforts by the Cleveland Housing Network and others are starting to prove themselves out. It turns out that if you take the three worst houses off of any block and either raze them or remodel them into something current, the whole neighborhood benefits and doesn't look crummy anymore. We have a long way to go, but the journey has begun.
