It is 100 percent hilarious that Joe and Jordan here are losing it over this one tiny act at one tiny bookstore. What are the words that get used against women when we demand equality or point out inequality? We're whiners, complainers, special snowflakes. We're too emotional. We're "butthurt."
Well, guys, LOLOL, with all seriousness, your comments embody all those words -- especially the word "butthurt" -- better than anything I've ever read on the internet in the last decade. Bravo. BRAVO, I say!
AdamHall and "Unhappy student," Raymond Ku was fired from his job for doing the right thing. He was a victim of sexual harassment and he reported it, and then he was fired. It sounds to me like the terms of this settlement are exactly what should have happened: Dr. Ku got his job back. There is no mention of a financial settlement, but even if Dr. Ku did get money, it likely is less than the amount of money/salary/earning potential/legal fees etc. that he lost during the ordeal. How is this "going silent?" What would you have Dr. Ku do -- become homeless because of something that another terrible human being did to him? He did the right thing -- he stood up for his rights and the rights of others in similar situations. The outcome is JUST. Justice has been done. It's amazing you seem to expect more out of an innocent man. Has he no right to win back what was taken from him by a terrible person?
You need to watch the documentary "Hot Coffee," in which you will learn how lawsuits usually go. Also perhaps you need to develop some compassion and an understanding of sexual harassment and how to fight it.
So, "LakeErieSeaGulls," he sexually abuses a girl, and your response is a rape joke? Seriously? Wow, way to demonstrate an understanding of rape culture and the tragedy that is sexual assault.
It's not poverty. It's not lack of law enforcement. It's not anything except misogyny. These murders, and the Castro case and Sowell -- these are men who committed crimes against women. This is a women's issue. This is an issue of misogyny and our failed patriarchy.
Um, Adam Hall? It's not lack of a sophisticated palate that stops people from spending money at restaurants that offer foie gras. Its' the fact that to produce foie gras, ducks are cruelly force-fed. The liver you eat when you eat foie gras is a diseased liver from an over-fattened duck. That's gross and it's cruel, and many people, myself included, will not spend money at an establishment that supports such a practice. Get informed before you make derisive statements about a commenter. It has nothing to do with common tastes vs. refined tastes. It is all about animal cruelty. Birds literally explode from the force feedings. It is a horrible and unimaginably painful life for them.
