Doug - can you actually keep us posted on the Lolita space? You said the same thing 12 months ago and never provided any actual information. You know Symon, get him to give an update on the record and if he is abandoning it then push him to say so
Typical Al Glazen getting his panties in a bunch. MS said in May 2016 that he would be opening Sherla's in May 2017. Then in August 2017 MS said if they could get Sherla's open by summer 2018 he would be happy. As it stands today it doesn't appear any actual work has been done on the property and MS is now saying there is no news to report. If he has abandoned the project because it doesn't make economic sense, the market is over saturated, etc. then he should at least update the residents of the neighborhood that have to walk past the abandoned building every day. It's frustrating that MS has found time to open restaurants in Atlantic City and Vegas while neglecting his own neighborhood. And of course Al get defensive about these factual statements because heaven forbid someone have any critical commentary about MS
"It's not necessarily a bad thing that the current boarded up windows on the huge and now less-than-gorgeous building on Public Square has an end in sight. It's what another addition to Gilbert's local real estate portfolio means that keeps us on our toes. Well be keeping our eyes peeled for anymore of Gilberts big developments that could be benefiting his companies more than our city"
I'm I ready the onion right now? It's "not necessarily a bad thing" that Gilbert bought a property that has sat empty in the middle of downtown for 25 years and is investing over $200M to make it a productive part of our city that can provide economic value??? How many other developers have bought this property and sat on it for years and now someone buys it and actually starts working on it immediately and Scene decides to criticize this? How exactly does this development not benefit Cleveland? And the point of private enterprise is to turn a profit, so yes if Gilbert is going to invest $200M he should be able to profit off of this investment....and why is that bad for Cleveland???
You do realize all of the buildings that were built downtown were erected under the purpose of making a profit. SMH
