he Medina city prosecutor has filed a motion seeking dismissal of a criminal charge against a Columbia Station man who posted a Facebook message cheering on the Newtown, Conn., school gunman.

Hearing scheduled for January 25.

Update: The ACLU has now stepped into the corner of Joseph Resovsky, the 20-year-old suburban Cleveland man who was charged with inducing panic after posting a Facebook message celebrating the Newtown school shootings.…

One of the real joys of Lottery League is when players nobody would ever have thought to put together without the intervention of the almighty hopper turn out to be an excellent band. There were more than a few of those last time — Stimulus Package, Free Moments and Hapsburg Lip leap to mind most readily, but there were others — and this year, Sausage Pilot seem poised to hit that level. Amps II Eleven’s Aaron Dowell, Rare Birds’/Dr. Teeeth’s Rusty Boyer, Good Touch Bad Touch’s Ryan Wilkins, Pere Ubu’s Steve Mehlman, and Lottery League organizer and Deathers singer Jae Kristoff are a disparate bunch whose regular bands range from lumpen metal stomp, to archly arty protopunk, to Kinks-y Victorian whimsy.…

A totally unassuming block of E. 36th St. in Midtown harbors far more cool than ought to be allowed — on one end of the street is Ante Up Recording Studio, at the other is the Front Room Gallery and the Gotta Groove record pressing plant. Smack in the middle is a warehouse building which used to house the unfuckwithably cool Zombie Proof, an old-school 16-track (OK, sometimes more like 15-track) analog recording studio that went ankles-up last October, dually a victim of the recession and the increasingly widespread ability of independent bands to record their own albums on home computers.…
