Tenth Anniversary of AIDS Taskforce Signature Event Honors Jill Snyder of MOCA Cleveland
Cleveland, OH - More than 500 art lovers will gather at the Museum of Contemporary Art on Saturday, April 28th for ArtCares 2012, the annual auction and party to benefit the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland. ArtCares 2012 is being presented through the generosity of Nordstrom, University Hospitals and Toby Devan Lewis with support from Consolidated Graphics Group.
This year, the AIDS Taskforce will present their ArtCares Icon award to Jill Snyder, director of MOCA Cleveland. Jill has been the director of MOCA since 1996 and has exhibited an unwavering commitment to the HIV/AIDS, LGBT and arts community. Under her leadership, MOCA has presented exceptional and provocative programming of art and artists impacted by HIV/AIDS while addressing this, and other civil rights and social issues, through art. Her leadership in building a more vibrant contemporary arts community is among the strongest locally, nationally and internationally. We hope you will be a part of this evening to celebrate her leadership and love of community.
The centerpiece of ArtCares remains the live auction of art generously donated by professional artists living in, or with connections to, Northeast Ohio. This year will feature a special exhibition of specially created work curated by local artist and curator, Kristin Rogers. Our special guest auctioneers – Cleveland Councilman Joe Cimperman and Mark Zinni, anchor and reporter, FOX8 News - will preside over the sale of original paintings, drawings, artist prints and more.
A silent auction will feature work donated local artists and by students of the Cleveland Institute of Art, who will participate in a competition sponsored by Stewart & Donna Kohl for $1,000 in prizes for best 2-D and 3-D piece.
This year’s party features music by Cleveland jazz legend Joe Hunter and his group, cocktails provided by SKYY Vodka and Southern Wine & Spirits of Ohio and delectables by Marigold Catering and area chefs from AMP 150, Dragonfly Lounge, ABC the Tavern, XYZ the Tavern and the Viaduct Lounge.
ArtCares is the signature fund-raiser for the AIDS Taskforce, which serves individuals and families infected, affected and at-risk for HIV/AIDS. Proceeds help provide services such as counseling and case management, educational programs for adults and youth at risk, housing, public policy and advocacy and a food pantry that provides much-needed help for a community in which illness often coincides with poverty.
VIP cocktails begin at 6:30 p.m., the tickets for which are $100. The general reception, including the auction, begins at 8 p.m., and tickets are $50 per person. Host Committee sponsorship and Corporate Partnerships are available. Tickets and more information are available by calling the Taskforce at 216-621-0766, extension 232, or by visiting www.aidstaskforce.org.
