Poker, blackjack, and slot fans converge at Grays Armory tonight for the third-annual Casino Night. The high-rolling event -- which typically draws more than 1,000 people -- benefits the Make-a-Wish Foundation. It was launched during the Texas Hold Em craze of 2005. We thought, Lets give it a shot, and see if people like this, says spokeswoman Liz Lewis. And they do.
Players pony up $75 for $50 worth of fun money to bet at various tables and machines. If they lose all their chips, more can be purchased at face value. Winnings go toward raffle tickets for a chance to snag one of 60 different prize baskets -- including a gift-certificate package from five Little Italy restaurants and a two-night stay at the downtown Hampton Inn.
Theres also a buffet of hors doeuvres and desserts, plus an open bar -- all to give gamblers that Vegas vibe. Youll get hooked, laughs Lewis. People are really not serious about the gambling, but its still a fun night.
