Tiki torches, tropical tunes, and swaying hula hips transform Wendy Park into a slice of Waikiki at today’s Luau on the Lake. “Think about sitting on the sand -- with that kind of laid-back, colorful atmosphere -- watching the sunset,” says spokesman Brendan Doyle.

The second-annual outing mixes local flavors (beer and cornhole tourneys) with island traditions -- like hula lessons taught by traditional Hawaiian dancers, “ono” (delicious) treats, and beach volleyball. “We really want to celebrate the lake,” says Doyle. “What’s fun on our shores, with a little island twist.” Look for ladies in grass skirts, leis, and music by local cover band Punch the Clown. A Hawaiian feast includes barbecue chicken, rice pilaf, and a tropical sorbet. “Sure, this isn’t Hawaii,” says Doyle. “But it’s our own kind of summer paradise.”
