Affiance Draws from Both Old and New School Metal on 'Blackout'

Album Review

(Bullet Tooth Records)

One of the best local bands on the circuit, Affiance made quite an impression with 2010’s No Secrets Revealed, an album that serves as a real call to arms. The band’s new album simply picks up where the last album left off. The album commences with the blistering title track, and the guitar solos in songs such as “Limitless” and “Darkest” show just how much the band has evolved. The over-the-top vocal performance on “In Justice” is simply stunning. These guys could hold their own against Slayer, Anthrax or any other veteran speed metal band. In singer Dennis Tvrdik, the group has a secret weapon. The guy’s a real screecher who can hit the high notes and could probably sing opera if he wanted to.

Affiance performs with Fallen Captive, Sentients, Cholera AD, Aurora, Atlas and Abstraction at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3 at the Agora Ballroom.
