All Dolled Up

Cleveland theater
It's been 30 years since the New York Dolls released a new record. In that time, three members of the original quintet have died. On the new CD, One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This, original Dolls David Johansen (vocals) and Sylvain Sylvain (guitar) lead a new group of Dolls through a set that sounds remarkably like their two classic studio albums in the '70s. The guys sound a little older and frayed around the edges, but the group's blazing center — fuzzy guitar solos, manic rhythms, and Johansen's snotty vocals — still holds. The Dolls are part of Little Steven's Underground Garage tour, which also includes the Supersuckers, the Chesterfield Kings, and the Charms.
