Andy Pratt

Friday, December 13, at the Beachland Ballroom.

Remember "Avenging Annie," the cult hit that peaked at No. 55 on the charts in the summer of 1973? If you do, you are undoubtedly either a native of Boston, a city that once had a really cool free-form radio station, or the kind of person who used to hang on every word written by the music scribes of Rolling Stone.

Andy Pratt was a critic's darling back then. The Harvard-educated former folkie was hailed as the next great singer-songwriter after "Annie," and he won further acclaim upon the release of his album Resolution in 1975. Pratt's jazz-inflected piano, inventive lyrics, and distinctive falsetto were going to put him on the level with Bruce Springsteen and Jackson Browne.

It never happened. Resolution didn't sell; neither did its follow-ups, which added Pratt's newfound Christianity to the mix. A public so quick to embrace Billy Joel just wasn't ready for Andy Pratt.

But for those who missed him the first time around, Pratt is back. His classic album has been reissued and remastered, with "Annie" and the catchy "All I Want Is You" added. Nearly three decades after the album's original release, this tour might offer a measure of resolution to Pratt himself.
