Art for Art's Sake

When: Fri., Aug. 30, 7 p.m. 2013
Price: $9
One critic called director Jem Cohen's Museum Hours the "best drama ever made about museums and the connection between visual art and everyday life." Can't imagine Cohen has much competition in that fairly narrow category. While his film, which centers on a Canadian tourist who befriends a security guard at Vienna's Kunshistorisches Museum, is well-filmed and does capture the beauty of the artwork located at the museum, its plot simply plods. In one rather drawn-out scene, the security guard describes the paintings at the museum in painstaking detail more befitting a PBS special than a feature film. The movie shows tonight at 7 and at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Cleveland Museum of Art. (Niesel)
