The Bang and the Clatter Theatre's Akron chapter, A Shot Rings Out, has found yet another new home at 29 North High St., in the building that houses Mocha Maiden and the concert venue Musica. Co-director Sean Derry describes it as "old storage space," slightly smaller than previous locations, but adds, "We like the area, the owner, the energy in the neighborhood." The company will be there at least through the end of the year, and will continue to negotiate and consider other spaces for the longer term. Next on the calendar is Neil LeBute's In a Dark Dark House, which opens October 31 and runs through November 22. All tickets cost $15. Call 330.606.5317.
The space formerly known as 1300 Gallery is once again percolating with life as the center of activity of the Gordon Square Experience, a quarterly art walk driven not by the Gordon Square Arts District, but by the galleries themselves. With the leadership of gallerists William Tregoning and William Scheele, proprietors of Tregoning and Company (1300 W. 78th St.) and Kokoon gallery (1305 W. 80th St.) respectively, the neighborhood has a series of show openings and open studio events. Tregoning and Company is showing works by digital artist Andrew Reach; Kokoon is showing the vividly colored and exquisitely detailed pattern paintings of Mexican-American artist Alfredo Arreguin. Cleveland Theater Collective, which is the local coordinator of the national Free Night of Theater, has happily announced that all 620 free tickets for this year's FNOT have been taken. It didn't take long. They were made available at noon Friday and were gone before 5. The current show at SPACES, Bi-Lingual, is rich in opportunities for dialogue - like at 6 p.m. Friday, October 10, when the gallery hosts "Identity Shows: Invisible Whiteness and Colored Display." Curator Angelica Pozo, the artists and guests will discuss dualism - the role of race and identity as "artists of color" express themselves. It's free.
