Non-multiplex flick picks for the week

Burke and Hare

The great Simon Pegg teams up with Andy Serkis (who played both Gollum in The Lord of the Rings movies and the lead monkey in the new Planet of the Apes) in a comedy about a pair of 19th-century grave robbers who sell corpses to a medical school. This is the first movie by John Landis — who directed Animal House, The Blues Brothers, and An American Werewolf in London — since the crappy Susan's Plan in 1998. Pegg's presence automatically makes this one better. At the Cinematheque at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, November 27, and 8:45 p.m. Monday, November 28. — Michael Gallucci

Daylight

Kidnappers snatch a man and his pregnant wife in this thriller. Cleveland Museum of Art's Morley Lecture Hall. At 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 30.

The Far Country

The Cinematheque's James Stewart/Anthony Mann Westerns series continues with a 1954 movie about a cattleman and the corrupt judge who has it out for him. Cinematheque. At 5:15 p.m. Saturday, November 26, and 6:45 p.m. Monday, November 28.

I'm Glad My Mother Is Alive

An adopted troubled teen tracks down his birth mother, and they begin a weird relationship. We hope it doesn't go there, but we're guessing maybe it does. Cinematheque. At 7:15 p.m. Saturday, November 26, and 8:20 p.m. Sunday, November 27.

Steamboat Bill, Jr.

Buster Keaton's great, silent 1928 riverboat comedy comes to shore at 10 a.m. Sunday as part of the Capitol Theatre's Sunday Classics series.

Tales From the Golden Age

Six urban legends from communist Romania are brought to life in this new comedy. Cinematheque. At 9:05 p.m. Saturday, November 26, and 3:30 p.m. Sunday, November 27.

Vincent Wants to Sea

A dude with Tourette syndrome and his two pals (one has OCD, the other is anorexic) hit the road for the Italian coast. It's going to be either totally wacky or super-intolerable. Cleveland Museum of Art's Morley Lecture Hall. At 7 p.m. Friday, November 25, and 1:30 p.m. Sunday, November 27.
