The Uninvited
The Cinematheque's "100 Years of Paramount Pictures" series offers movie fans plenty of opportunities to see all sorts of quiet classics from the studio's vaults on the big screen, where they were truly meant to be viewed. (As visionary as he was, Cecil B. DeMille probably never anticipated people watching films on their iPhones.) The lineup includes everything from westerns to comedies to dramas. This week's movie is one of the moodiest and best ghost stories ever made, a subtle 1944 shocker starring Ray Milland as an unfortunate composer who moves into an old Gothic mansion with his sister. Fireworks Wednesday
The Cinematheque's tribute to Asghar Farhadi (the Iranian director who made last year's excellent A Separation) continues with his third movie, a 2006 drama about a squabbling couple. Apparently Farhadi likes the subject. Cinematheque. At 8:45 p.m. Thursday, May 17, and 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 18.
First Position
Documentary about a competition for young ballet dancers. Opens Friday at the Cedar Lee Theatre.
Headhunters
Norwegian thriller about a guy tracking down a valuable painting owned by a retired mercenary. Opens Friday at the Cedar Lee Theatre.
Le Havre
This French charmer about an old shoeshine guy who takes in a young African boy returns to the Cinematheque. At 8 p.m. Saturday, May 19.

The Story of Film: An Odyssey

The Yellow Sea
Did someone pee in it? Nope. In fact, this South Korean action flick — about a cab driver who becomes a blood-spilling hit man — should be called The Red Sea. Cinematheque. At 9:30 p.m. Friday, May 18, and 9:50 p.m. Saturday, May 19.
