Dead Horse Gallery

Housed in a former doctor's office, the Dead Horse is a cozy ramble of small rooms with low ceilings. Owner Kim Schoel opened the place in August 2000, after her artist friends complained that getting a show in town "was like beating a dead horse." Since then, Schoel has featured the work of hundreds of area artists, from fresh art-school graduates and established veterans to teenagers and self-taught artists. Dead Horse mounts about 10 adventurous shows each year in the main galleries, while a secondary space (opened summer 2002) rotates the work of dozens of artists. Log on to www.deadhorse.com to explore hundreds of images, and you'll be blown away by the variety of styles and media. Getting a show isn't easy as pie, but it sure isn't beating a dead horse. Thank Dead Horse itself for that.
