Barbecue has been top of mind lately, what with some very high-profile openings in recent days. But before there were celebrity chef-run BBQ bistros, there was Hot Sauce Williams, a name synonymous with “Cleveland barbecue.” They might not trade in Texas-style brisket, or whip up Memphis-style pulled pork, but the food is delicious and authentically ours. Pig out with a slab of sauce-slathered ribs, a mess of fried chicken in hot sauce, or that legendary Polish Boy sandwich in all its sausage-fry-and-slaw splendor. The winner of this category might be different next year, but until then, we’ll be over here with a sauce-covered grin on our faces.
