Best Bet at the Mall

Teaka Noodles & Juice

The mall, for the most part, is where we go to shop, not to eat. And if we should happen to inadvertently bring our appetites with us, the dismal lineup of boring, unhealthy food court offerings leaves us cold. So it was with more than a little enthusiasm that we welcomed Richard Baribault's new venture, Teaka Noodles & Juice, to the Westgate Mall food court. Baribault, owner of downtown's Tea House Noodles, and partner Dewey Forward (half of the former Pete and Dewey's Planet) are doing their best to bring alternative eats to the masses, with a big menu of Asian-style noodle and rice bowls topped with everything from tofu to teriyaki chicken. Salads, soups, ginkgo-and-ginseng-boosted smoothies, freshly squeezed juices, and herbal teas round out the selection of goodies. Baribault says, "After all, you shouldn't be hungry on the path to enlightenment." That's one way to put it. Personally, we prefer to think of Teaka Noodles as the perfect pit stop on the way to Waldenbooks.
