Best Contribution to Music

Alternative Press

Cleveland brags up the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, despite the ceremonies' taking place in New York, but the city's best foothold in new music is Alternative Press. The mag got its start as a tiny 'zine in the early 1980s and grew into a punk-rock powerhouse, due in large part to the sheer force of will of founder Mike Shea. While Spin and Rolling Stone were fawning over Britney Spears, Alternative Press spotted the emo evolution from its vantage way out in the Midwest. Now New York is trying to catch up.
