Best Dynamic Duo

Arabella Proffer and Shannon Oakey

Painter Arabella Proffer and knitter Shannon Okey are among the busiest artists in town. Proffer's portraits — inspired by portraiture of the Renaissance aristocracy, but informed by punk rock — are currently in group shows in several states and a solo show in Pittsburgh. In Cleveland, she's shown at Asterisk, William Rupnik Gallery and many others. Okey champions the local handmade movement by organizing the Cleveland edition of Bazaar Bizarre, knits up a soft storm of hats, sweaters and other things to keep you warm (which are for sale at Knitgrrl studios), edits the magazine Yarn Forward, and has written 10 books about the craft. Okey and Proffer are close friends and share studio space at the Screw Factory in Lakewood. (arabellaproffer.com; knitgrrl.com) — Gill
