Best Italian Lemon Ice

Tommy's Drive In

Owner Tom Olivo is a walking encyclopedia of Cleveland's Italian history and a born storyteller to boot. His cast of characters includes everyone from local mobsters to his own Italian American family, and we enjoy hearing about the origins of this outstanding, sweet-and-tangy lemon ice (first created by his grandmother at her Mt. Carmel candy store in the 1930s and given out as a free treat to neighborhood children every Wednesday) almost as much as we enjoy spooning it up. Almost, but not quite.
