After a devastating fire last year, the West Side Market has once again become Cleveland's hottest Saturday destination for neighborhood folks and suburban tourists alike. Poised to receive a major grant from the state's capital bill (to the tune of $500,000) the Market is in line for significant improvements, which may include heat. There's really nothing like a spring day on West 25th Street and the crowds are not only humongous but diverse as can be: people-watching at its finest. You'll pick up choice words from at least seven languages during a 10-minute stroll through the aisles. And don't forge the amazing meat, produce, flowers and pastries, plus the finest falafel-egg-and-cheese wrap this side of Lebanon. Nothing else like it anywhere in the region, and for a century, the Market has stood in all its majesty as a communal destination for Clevelanders' first love — food.
