Best Outdoor Dining

Garden at the Baricelli Inn

There are countless reasons to dig summer on the North Coast. But for fine-dining fans, none is more compelling than the chance to dine alfresco in the secluded garden of the Baricelli Inn. Nestled in the heart of Little Italy, the circa-1896 inn is home to chef-owner Paul Minnillo's award-winning kitchen and his finely crafted menu of contemporary American and European fare. Of course, dishes like kurobuta pork with spiced pecans or sweetbreads in a mortadella basket would be delightful no matter where they were consumed. But enjoyed in an intimate outdoor setting, surrounded by flowers, trees, a fountain, and ancient-looking statuary, they seem to nurture the spirit as much as they fortify the body. Our personal suggestion, though, is to save the more composed dishes for a cold, rainy day; and on a fine, balmy evening, dine outdoors on some of Minnillo's aged artisanal cheeses and a platter of cold Italian meats. Add a bottle of wine, some sturdy bread, and someone you love.
