Best Scenic Drive

Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area

For a no-sweat way to enjoy beautiful scenery, try this drive, which starts and ends in Peninsula. Going west on Route 303, turn left on Akron-Peninsula Road, past the Brandywine Country Club and continuing on until you reach Ira Road. Turn right, then right again on Oak Hill Road. You'll catch glimpses of the meandering Cuyahoga River as you travel through the heavily wooded area. The winding road takes you past Hale Farm and Village as well as a covered bridge to your right. Turn right on Everett Road, following the river; turn right again to continue on Everett. You'll have your second view of the covered bridge, this time from the other side. Turn left on Riverview Road; at this point, the Towpath Trail will be on your right, between the road and the river. You'll pass Deep Lock Quarry and Heritage Farms Tree Farm before heading back into the center of Peninsula, where you can go have a beer and contemplate whether next time you'll want to take in some exercise with your scenery. Nah -- silly thought.
