Best Stage Show (Drama)

Stop Kiss

This play, produced last September by Red Hen Theater, follows two ostensibly heterosexual women as they gradually break their former ties and come to terms with their need for each other. When they have their first tender kiss in a park, one of them is almost beaten to death by a gay-basher. It is one of the great paradoxes that a work centered on an act of grotesque violence could turn out to be an evening of healing beauty. Director Jan Bruml, along with one of the best ensembles in years, demonstrated what can happen when a company treasures a work it's performing.
