Frankly, Grace Diomede, the superwoman behind Tower City Tailoring, could sew our damn pant legs together, and we'd still give her business -- if only to spend a few minutes behind her partition, chatting about her sons or her homeland or whatever else comes up. It's a bonus, really, that her craftsmanship is top-notch. She started sewing 43 years ago, as a teenager in southern Italy. After landing stateside at age 20, she spent years tailoring power-brokers' suits at Cleveland's downtown Brooks Brothers before opening her own shop, in a small suite in the Terminal Tower. That's where she dishes out an otherwordly combination of motherly sweetness, precision, and customer service. For well-worth-it prices -- 12 bucks to shorten pants, etc. -- she'll work as fast as you need, but if you're not in a hurry, don't rush her. This is a one-woman show, after all, and she needs extra time to chat with you.
