Best Use of Alternative Energy

Jacobs Field Solar Panels

The wind tower by the Great Lakes Science Center is Cleveland's best-known example of alternative energy, but it's not the best. That title goes to the new solar panels atop Jacobs Field, the first in the American League. Costing about $180,000, the 42 solar panels generate 8.4 kilowatts of energy, enough power to run each of the 400 televisions around the ballpark. The Indians, Green Energy Ohio, the Cleveland Foundation, and Doty and Miller Architects launched the program to raise awareness of environmental conservation. Visible atop the Jake's upper concourse, there's no doubt they serve as very public examples of the small steps big companies can take.
