Bill Callahan/Lonnie Holley

When: Thu., Oct. 10, 8:30 p.m. 2013
Price: $15 ADV, $17 DOS
With a nice roster of solo albums building up after his time performing as Smog, Bill Callahan has yet again dropped another winner. Dream River, released last month, quickly garnered the attention of many in indie circles. “Small Plane” is a delicate song, a quaint musing on love and relationships. As in that tune and many others, Callahan achieves a beauty by stripping away excesses and cutting to the core of what he’s trying to say — lyrically and musically. His catalog covers a vast array of styles and musical angles; there’s enough there to take up the next several weeks straight of listening. Dream River is a good starting point. Tonight’s show is sure to be an intimate one, and Callahan is guaranteed to paint an evening of wonderful songcraft and melody. (Sandy)
