Since launching his ridiculously successful B Spot (28699 Chagrin Blvd., 216-292-5567, bspotburgers.com) last year, the question for Michael Symon hasn't been if he would open another but when and where. Finally, those questions have answers. Look for the second B Spot (not counting the Q) to open in Strongsville sometime around the first of the year. Located at The Greens near the intersection of Royalton (Rt. 82) and Pearl roads, the restaurant will feature a familiar look and feel. "We want people to know that they are walking into a B Spot," says Symon.
It's been a monumental year for the Cleveland chef. In addition to his role on Iron Chef America and appearances on The Next Iron Chef, Symon's new show Food Feuds debuts October 14 on the Food Network. The eight-episode season takes Symon to Baltimore, Philly, Akron, and St. Louis, where he had a life-changing event. "One of my top-three memorable food experiences of my life," he says, fresh off the trip. "The barbecue just knocked my socks off."
Symon's other show, Cook Like an Iron Chef, has been so well received on the Cooking Channel, he adds, that the Food Network may test-drive it. "I couldn't be more proud of that show," he beams. "The best compliment is when my chef friends call to tell me how much they enjoy watching it."
And if all of that weren't enough: Symon has been tapped to emcee Farm Aid 25 in Milwaukee on October 2, sharing the stage with the likes of Willie Nelson and Neil Young.
For 25 years, Club Isabella was the place to go in University Circle for matchless jazz and food. That ended in 2007 when University Hospitals razed the legendary club to make way for a new cancer hospital. Following three years of searching for the perfect location, Fabio Mota, the restaurant's final owner, is preparing to revive the legend. Located in the former Goose Acres Music on Cornell Road in Little Italy, the new spot is a two-minute walk from the original. Guests can look forward to warm contemporary decor with hardwood floors, red brick walls, a white marble bar, and leather banquettes. Mota, former chef de cuisine at Johnny's restaurants, describes the menu as "eclectic gourmet." "Club Isabella had so much history," he says. "It was a shame to see it go." Expect it to be back by winter.
