Beer, burgers, Accent, and more

It's the next logical step in the ever-growing roster of microbeweries in Northeast Ohio: Brew your own at home.

That became a lot easier this week with the opening of The Cleveland Brew Shop in Tremont. "I like the idea of being part of Cleveland, and being in the Cleveland beer scene," says owner Paul Benner.

The full-service shop will offer both beer- and wine-making ingredients, equipment, and kits for home brewers and vintners of all skill levels. On the horizon, Benner is planning beer- and wine-making classes once a month, tastings, and special events. For more, check clevelandbrewshop.com.

The Willoughby classic Burgers-n-Beer has officially opened its second location. Setting up shop right above BD Mongolian BBQ on Coventry, B-n-B will bring its award-winning menu to this eclectic strip. Owners Mike and Marilyn, who in the tradition of Sonny and Cher prefer not to reveal their last name, aim to make B-n-B the burger go-to spot in this area. Check for updates at burgersnbeer.com.

The long-awaited Accent restaurant has opened in University Circle's hip Uptown area. Restaurateur Scott Kim uses a unique "robata" style of cooking. Following close on the heels of Accent, the ABC Tavern Uptown is aiming to launch in early 2013. Alan Glazen and his team are looking to bring the energy of their Ohio City bar and eatery to University Circle, an emerging culinary area where the restaurant excitement is just starting to heat up. Speaking of Ohio City, construction is moving along on Fabio Salerno's fast casual concept Townhall on West 25th St. The new restaurant will offer a healthier alternative to the usual tasty Italian fare than you might be accustomed to Salerno preparing over the years. Townhall will feature a coffee and juice bar, and serve breakfast daily. "There is something for everyone," Salerno says. "It will be a concept unique to Cleveland, and will complement the great businesses and restaurants on West 25th."

Cedar Creek Grille has officially launched in Beachwood, taking the space that Melange previously occupied in the La Place Shopping Center. Led by the Doody family, who founded the successful Brio and Bravo restaurants, Cedar Creek Grille will be anything but ordinary. The ambience is a return to a classic American grill of the 1950s and '60, featuring cherry wood ceilings, recycled barn wood and marble mosaic floors, a "reclaimed" wood butcher-block bar (salvaged from an old factory in Cleveland), a chef's table, and white tablecloth tables surrounded by leather booths. The restaurant also has a covered terrace with a butcher-block bar, wood-burning fireplace, marble-topped tables, and French bistro chairs with soft seating. The menu offers simple, high-quality selections designed to appeal to a cross-section of diners. The focus is on fresh, local, organic items prepared on the grill. And finally, maybe there's hope for the Galleria, where Winks Bar and Grille has opened its doors. The brainchild of the founders of The Winking Lizard, Winks offers the same energy and fun atmosphere as its older brother. Creative menu selections like the "Hangover Burger" and a vast selection of beer and wine truly fills a need with the downtown business crowd.
