Brews and 'Dos

A mugful of beer helps the grooming go down.

At Heather Hoty's salon, she cuts the hair and pours the beers. The Reagle Beagle, a "hair saloon for men," pairs a full-scale styling center with a beer-and-wine tavern. But, Hoty warns, "I don't want anyone coming in here getting smashed."

While a customer waits his turn, he can check out the indoor putting green, dart board, and video games in the lounge, all the while nursing a six-ounce brewski. Once the guy's nerves start to numb, Hoty and her stylists go to work. "You can actually be sitting in your chair getting your hair cut, hands groomed, and a minifacial, all at the same time," says Hoty, whose clients include WJW-TV 8 sportscaster Tony Rizzo (pictured).

For a few extra bucks, men can get their eyebrows tweezed, necks waxed, and scalps massaged too. "A guy having his hair colored is like plastic surgery," says Hoty. "Guys are a totally different animal." The Reagle Beagle (17617 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood) is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, except Saturday, when it's open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, when it's closed. Prices range from $7 (for a beard trim) to $90 (for a 90-minute massage). Call 216-228-9677 for more info. -- Cris Glaser

Artland
Painesville festival draws artists and collectors from near and far.

SAT 8/21

Painesville's third annual Art in the Park takes place on Saturday, and the juried show has grown into quite an outing for locally created arts and crafts, says Painesville's economic-development coordinator, Gretchen Skok DiSanto. "The turnout has been an overwhelming success that has exceeded all expectations in artist participation and patron attendance," she says. Included in the daylong gathering at Veterans Memorial Park are paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography, glass items, graphics, pottery, jewelry, and wood-carvings. Live music performances will take place throughout the day, and local restaurants will provide their own works of art. "The drawing power of this event brings artists from all over northeastern Ohio and as far away as Columbus," DiSanto claims. "People are eager to share their talents and displays with the city of Painesville." It happens from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park in downtown Painesville. Admission is free. Green Day

SAT 8/21

We just can't escape those Irish celebrations. Not that we'd want to. At Saturday's Luck o' the Irish Festival, food, step-dancers, rides, and scavenger hunts for a pot of gold and a four-leaf clover converge. Music by Solas (pictured), Clumsy Lovers, Knot Fibb'n, Calahan & O'Connor, and That Irish Band join the fun. It all happens from 4 to 10 p.m. at Lock 3 Live! Park (on Main Street in Akron). Admission is $10. Call 330-535-3178 for more information. -- Diane Sofranec

Woman on Top
Jenna Jameson opens up in new book.

FRI 8/20

Following in the spike-heeled footsteps of Traci Lords, adult-movie star Jenna Jameson is looking to go mainstream. TV and movie gigs will supposedly surface within the next year (she's already hosted E! programs). For now, she's written (or more likely, she advised co-author Neil Strauss in writing) How to Make Love Like a Pornstar: A Cautionary Tale, a memoir that makes a "female-empowerment" argument. But you'll want to skip right over that part and head straight to the pictures and dishy sections about the porn industry, and how Jenna became its biggest star. Jameson signs her book at 7 p.m. Friday at Joseph-Beth Booksellers, 24519 Cedar Road in Lyndhurst. Admission is free. Call 216-691-7000 for more information. -- Michael Gallucci
