CD Review: Shred Rot

Nuthing Extra Special (self-released)

shredrot.com

With lyrics that make you want to shield the ears of any close-by babes, you'd never picture the band as the young, seemingly innocent, high school trio they are. Shred Rot's full-length debut showcases Matt Miller's raspy vocals (think Buckcherry's Josh Todd), while drummer Scott Drazdik and bassist Nick Reinman play with a force well beyond their years. As a whole, the songs are the epitome of grunge rock. The opening title track is a candid sex anthem, and "Who's to Blame" channels Nirvana's "Come as You Are," while "Shudder" slows things down with an acoustic style and indie feel. For three Cleveland guys who got together a little over two years ago, Nuthing Extra Special is a hell of a way to come out of the gate. — Nikki Hunt
