Streat Mobile Bistro
When StrEat isn't out cruising the streets of Cleveland, it just might be on a movie set. That's because owner Izzy Schachner provides production catering for commercials, television shows, and movies shot in the Cleveland area.
While Schachner missed out on catering The Avengers (he was offered the gig, but the truck wasn't yet up and running), his rig has another claim to fame: It once fed the crew of TV's The West Wing.
Schachner bought the $100K mobile kitchen in L.A. specifically for its production-catering capacity. But — lucky for us — there's been one snag: "There aren't enough films in Cleveland to sustain a full-time business," says Schachner. "So when we're not doing movies, that's when we're out here doing the food truck thing."
While the rig offers an ever-changing menu, Schachner and his head chef Nate White agree their favorite item is the honey-bourbon BBQ pulled pork sandwich, topped with zesty coleslaw ($8). Add some "truck made" salt-and-pepper chips for another $2.
Other frequently available treats include jerk-chicken soft tacos, veggie Naan-wiches, and lemon-herb Tuscan beans; most items check in at less than $10.
Another place you might spot the boldly painted rig is among all the white at a wedding. "The only difference between us and a traditional caterer is that we pull up to your wedding and start cooking fresh," says Schachner. "Other caterers might prepare something the days before. Why not get it fresh?"
Our thoughts exactly.
