Cold War Drama

When: Sat., April 5 2014
Director Sidney Lumet’s Cold War thriller Fail-Safe was originally scheduled to come out shortly before Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove, a film that tackled the same issues of nuclear annihilation. But thanks to some behind-the-scenes actions that Kubrick took, the film got bumped and came out after Dr. Strangelove. As a result, it lost some of its luster, though it still received generally favorable reviews upon its release. To celebrate the film’s 50th anniversary, the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque screens a 35mm print from the Sony archives. The film shows at 5:15 p.m. and tickets are $9. (Niesel)
